Barriers in innovation and knowledge management in the Romanian emergent economy
The purpose of this paper is to present a critical evaluation of the implementation and development of innovation and knowledge management in the Romanian emergent economy. As a former socialist country, Romania faced some specific difficulties in its transition from centrally controlled economy toward the free market economy, and from state ownership toward private ownership. A centrally controlled economy is very rigid, and it is based on inertial and linear thinking patterns. Switching toward a free market economy means also switching toward a dynamic and nonlinear thinking patterns, a more adequate perspective for the complex and turbulent changing business environment. Our research identified and evaluated the main barriers in implementing innovation and knowledge management in the Romanian economy, and based on these findings we developed a series of possible solutions.barriers, centrally controlled economy, cognitive approximation, innovation management, knowledge management, linear thinking, nonlinear thinking.
THE ORGANIZATIONAL KNOWLEDGE DYNAMICS (OKD) MODEL. CASE STUDY VODAFONE ROMANIA
According to the new economic models, knowledge has to be incorporated in production functions as a key factor. Therefore, in the new knowledge based economy the main challenge is to develop, combine and integrate the knowledge of thousands of employees within an organizational framework. The main purpose of this paper is to present a new model of organizational knowledge dynamics developed by the authors by using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) methodology. The research approach is both theoretical and empirical. The developed model was tested within the Romanian business environment and the results prove the existence of high correlations between the results of the model and the actual strategies with regard to knowledge of the company, thus enhancing the efficiency of the model.Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), knowledge modelling, Organizational Knowledge Dynamics (OKD) Model.
SURVEY DESIGN USING INDIVIDUAL NUMERICAL SCALES IN THE FRAMEWORK OF ANALYTIC HIERARCHY PROCESSES
This paper discusses the adequacy of a generalization of Saatyâs 1-9 scale proposed by Liang at all (2008) in the attempt to identify individual scales. Several surveys in completely different areas were conducted on different topics. Comparisons among the consistency index-as a measure of a âgood answerâ and the previously mentioned scale reveal a non monotonic correspondence among those two criterions. Also, the individual scale considered â which is in itself a generalization of other similar scales for measuring individual responses â is not uniquely determined for a single respondent and is very often contradictory. Yet, the potential benefits in determining individual scales of measurement are enormous and maybe the most important one is getting rid of the myth of the good appliance of the âlaw of large numbersâ in social sciences.Analytic Hierarchy Processes, knowledge sharing, mapping, numerical scale, simulated annealing, verbal responses.
Media Knowledge Consumers Protection
Complex and interdisciplinary researches demonstrate today, more powerful than ever, that we live in a knowledge-based society, a society in which the production, distribution and consumption of knowledge are fundamental processes. Land, labor and capital, the production factors that characterized previous societies, have been replaced in the macroeconomic indicators hierarchies by intellectual capital. Knowledge-based economy means not only the development of knowledge production and distribution, but also knowledge consumption. The new class of workers, the knowledge workers, signaled by Peter Drucker a few dcades ago, led to the development of a new class of consumers: knowledge consumers. From the wide class of knowledge consumers we will focus our attention on media knowledge consumers, respectively press and audiovisual media. The main purpose of this paper is to demonstrate the necessity of the conceptualization of this important class of consumers and to formulate a series of requirements for their protection. Having in mind the main purpose of this paper, we conducted a series of researches on two fundamental dimensions: a) the gathering of media information and knowledge from the most important newspapers and TV channels from Romania; b) the estimation of the degree of awareness of media knowledge consumersâ protection among members of the Romanian Parliament, members in change of legislating in our country. This paper presents the results of the first series of researches, on the two above mentioned dimensions.knowledge, knowledge consumers, consumers rights, media knowledge suppliers, knowledge consumersâ protection
BOLOGNA PROCESS TRADE âOFFS. THE PERCEPTION OF THE ROMANIAN ACADEMIC STAFF
The Bologna process aims at creating a European Higher Education Area where inter-country mobility of students and staff, as well as workers holding a degree, is facilitated. While several aspects of the process deserve wide public support, others are less consensual. The paper checks the extent of academic staff confidence in the restructuring of higher education currently underway, by looking at its implications in Romania. Based on six open-ended interview questions of 29 faculty members in Romania, the results of our study identify central themes associated with this relevant stakeholder groupâs perception of benefits and issues/challenges associated with the implementtation process. Most notably the themes of process planning, accreditation, lack of information, and unexpected results emerged as issues/challenges, while mobility, wider choice of programs, improved quality, and international standing were perceived as benefits.academic staff, Bologna process, curricula, higher education.
Intergenerational knowledge transfer in the academic environment of knowledge-based economy
In the immediate future, intergenerational knowledge transfer is one of the knowledge-based economyâs main challenges since an inner motivational force powers knowledge transfer. Knowledge transfer from individuals to groups and organization must follow knowledge creation in order to transform individual into organizational knowledge, along the epistemological dimension of the Nonakaâs knowledge dynamics model. Moreover, the knowledge intensive organizations increase their fluxes of knowledge across different age layers and different departments, reducing in the same time the company knowledge loss. The academic environment is, by nature, an age layered field or a nested functional structure. Intergenerational knowledge transfer becomes any university main driving force, while understanding its dynamics is important for academic life improvement. The purpose of the paper is to present some of our research results in the field of intergenerational knowledge transfer in the academic environment of the knowledge-based economy. We performed a qualitative and quantitative research of the knowledge transfer process in the academic environment, using the Analytic Hierarchy Processes (AHP). We analyzed the faculty staff attitudes toward cooperation, competition, and innovation as main priorities in performing research, writing books and publishing scientific papers. The above-mentioned activities are based on intergenerational knowledge transfer and lead to learning processes at individual and organizational levels. Respondents are members of the academic staff of economics and business faculties from the main Romanian universities.knowledge, knowledge-based economy, knowledge transfer, university
A holistic view of the organizational knowledge dynamics
The purpose of this paper is to present a holistic view of the organizational knowledge dynamics, as an alternative to the current research focusing on different aspects of this complex and nonlinear phenomenon. Organizational knowledge is a semantic construct which has been developed as a result of growing importance of knowledge as a strategic resource, and it constitutes an integration of all forms of knowledge co-existing within an organization. Organizational knowledge varies in time and its dynamics is vital for organizational growth and for achieving a competitive advantage. Our approach is based on metaphorical thinking and on critical analysis of the present research concerning organizational knowledge and organizational intellectual dynamics. Going beyond the iceberg and stocks-and-flows metaphors, our research is based on the energy metaphor and the entropy law. The conceptual approach used and the final results obtained demonstrate the importance and utility of the holistic view in understanding more profoundly the complexity of the organizational knowledge dynamics

Perspectives of Bioeconomy: The Role of Intellectual Capital and Knowledge Management
The present issue of Amfiteatru Economic Journal addresses the subject of intellectual capital and knowledge management role in developing a sustainable bioeconomy. For the coming future bioeconomy represents a priority of the R&D and innovation policy in the European Union. It aims at biotechnologies progress and their utilization on a larger scale in economical processes capable to provide a sustainable growth by replacing the traditional resources with regenerative biological resources. Bioeconomy means the transfer of the new advanced scientific knowledge in the innovative industrial processes for producing new materials, new food, pharmaceutical and chemical products, and new energy resources. By all these features, bioeconomy represents an intrinsic and vital component of the knowledge economy. In the same time, bioeconomy generates important social transformations supported significantly by the intellectual capital and knowledge management.
Research focused on knowledge management and intellectual capital aims at discovering the new ideas and principles of using efficiently and intelligently all the intangible resources of organizations in order to create value for society. While the intellectual capital appears as a potential of organizational intangible resources, knowledge management has been developed as a practical answer to the need of identifying and implementing those models through which managers can use efficiently organizational knowledge to achieve a sustainable competitive advantage
Practice Models and Public Policies in the Management and Governance of Higher Education
<p>Since the end of the last century, there  have been lots of analyses on the evolution of  various basic types of structures of authority and  academic governance patterns, public policies and  practice models, all together in search of the most  effective formula for adapting the higher education  institutions to the new educational requirements  and trends of the global market, characterized by  increasing competition. In this context, our paper  provides a succinct analysis of the worldwide trends  in the governance and management of higher  education with an emphasis on Europe and on  the evolution of the Romanian universities, in the  context of the public policies promoted during time.  </p
